Digital Multimedia Chapter 3 October 5, 2009
1. Three significant differences between vector and bitmapped graphics are that bitmapped graphics are stored in pixels, whereas vector graphics are stored as a mathematical description. Bitmapped file must be bigger because it needs to store the details of every pixel whereas a vector graphic is much more compact. The last difference between bitmapped and vector graphics are that painting programs usually operate in bits while drawing programs operate in vectors.
2. Bitmapped or Vector—
a. Vector
b. Vector
c. Bitmapped
d. Vector
e. Bitmapped
f. Bitmapped
g. Bitmapped
h. Bitmapped
i. Bitmapped
j. Vector
3. Vector drawings implement layers because you can import a picture as a bitmap and then use vector tools to layer over the image.

4. Yahoo! Could improve the functionality of their website by 1) making it have less clustered content and make more links. 2) The tabs and buttons could stand out and be more appealing visually 3) as well as the color scheme. 4) They could possibly put the advertisements along the bottom or all in one general place instead of mingled with the actual website content, it gets confusing what is part of the website and what is an advertisement link. 5) They should also slightly increase font size, it looks like so much content is condensed into a tiny space, and it is not aesthetically appealing.
5. I chose the iPhoto interface that comes standard with a Mac. It is mainly a user-friendly application however some things I don’t like about it are:
1) The edit features are limited. It is obviously no Photoshop, but (as far as I have been able to tell) the only edits you can perform are basic, pre-installed “crop”, “brighten”, “black and white”, etc. I would like to see more edit capabilities.
2) As a novice Mac and iPhoto user, I find it difficult to save an edited photo directly on the application. It saves as a “recent even” and if I want to change the file name I have to go into the hard drive and change the name manually. I would like it to be easier to edit/change/locate new file names on this program.
3) I would like to be able to see the original of the photo while I am editing without having to reset all of my altercations.
4) Besides adding editing features, I would like to see the existing features be more in depth. The user is limited in how they enhance and edit the photo, and the few changes one can make are then limited even farther to the extent of the altercation.
5) I would like if you could group the pictures into folders. Although they are seperated by upload, if one has a thousand + pictures, it takes too long to scroll through everything. Folders would make the interface more consolidated and easy to work through.
7. I do not think it would be desirable for ultimate control to be with the user. It is more attractive for a user to USE a product than to produce it. The professionals create an alluring and intriguing product such as a game or a website, and users experience all it has to offer.
